Spell to the Fates

Author: DJ Conway

Items needed: three cords of equal length; one red, one white, and one black.

Purify and cast Circle.

Consecrate each cord with the elements, sprinkling with salt and water, and passing
through flame and incense.

Take the three cords and braid them together, knotting at each end separately. If you wish you can make it long enough to tie around your waist and use it as part of your ritual garments.

While braiding chant:

“Over, under, threads of fate
As in my life, so in all things
Weaving the pattern, soon or late,
I see the results that action brings.”

Kiss the finished braid and tie it around your waist or drape it over your shoulders.

Visualize the Fates before you, lift your arms and chant:

“A New Year dawns. The threads weave on,
To ultimately reveal my destiny.
O, Fates of Life, I ask Thine aid
To clear my path and set me free.
Let old things die and blow away,
Let new come in to prosper me.
O, Fates of Life, I ask Thine aid
To clear my path and set me free!”

Perform the simple feast.

Close Circle.

Sleep with the braided cord under your pillow for three nights and pay attention
to your dreams. Be prepared to do whatever is necessary and proper to straighten out your life and make your path smoother.

Phaedra's Notes:

I've only done this spell once and that was with Cat's Moon back in 1999. It was near the end of our time as a group, something that I was aware was coming but was trying to hold it off. In retrospect, I think that the whole group knew and it was like an axe hanging over our heads because none of us wanted to admit it or face the source of the problems. I suggested doing this spell in the hopes that it would help to build some new bonds that we might be able to open the lines of communication and try to hold our group together.

However, it wasn't meant to be. The following week Cat's Moon broke up for good, three of the members having differences that they were unable to resolve. Shortly after that a promotion and a move was woven into our lives, which was another reason I think that the Fates pushed the dissolution of Cat's Moon to happen so quickly. With that said, my own cord had a wonderful impact on me and I would wear it like a belt whenever I needed to feel extra grounded or focused. After a couple of years the special 'feel' of it wore off and I retired it.

While there was a large amount of power raised when we did the spell, it began to peter out near the end. To wait while each person (there were eight of us all together) braided six to nine feet of cording... attentions started to wander and focus was moved elsewhere by the people watching. I would suggest making sure that this is done either in a very small group (like only three or four people) or do them over several nights. It can also be done as a solitary.
