Devoke the God
Devoke the Goddess
Snuff the green candle and say:
“Guardians of the North,
Green Dryads of the woodland groves
Thank you for joining our Circle tonight.
I called and you answered to act as witness and guide
To our ritual this evening.
May your earthly essence return the stone
From whence it came
And may there peace and friendship between us
Now and forever.
By stone, leaf, and tree
Hail and Farewell.”
Snuff the blue candle and say:
“Guardians of the West,
Watery Naiads of the deep
Thank you for joining our Circle tonight.
I called and you answered to act as witness and guide
To our ritual this evening.
May your liquid essence return the water
From whence it came
And may there peace and friendship between us
Now and forever.
By river, rain, and wave
Hail and Farewell.”
Snuff the red candle and say:
“Guardians of the South,
Burning Draeconi of the noontide blast
Thank you for joining our Circle tonight.
I called and you answered to act as witness and guide
To our ritual this evening.
May your fiery essence return to the flame
From whence it came
And may there be peace and friendship between us
Now and forever.
By fire, lightening, and stars
Hail and Farewell!”
Snuff the white candle and say:
“Guardians of the East,
Airy Sylphs of the rising dawn
Thank you for joining our Circle tonight.
I called and you answered to act as witness and guide
To our ritual this evening.
May your unseen essence return to the air
From whence it came
And may there peace and friendship between us
Now and forever.
By sky, wind, and storm
Hail and Farewell!”
Pick up your athame and salute earth and sky. Then lift your arms and slowly lower
them, then say:
“Our Circle is open, but unbroken,
We leave here with the peace and love
Of the Deities, the Kindred, and Androgyne
Within our hearts and within the world.
We are the Children of Earth and starry Heaven,
May the sacred presence remain with us always
We go now in blessings and friendship,
Our rite has ended
So Mote it Be!”
Snuff the candle for the Divine Androgyne and say:
“Divine Androgyne, Nameless, Eldest, Ageless,
We must leave the in-between time and return to my own place.
From you all acquired face and form,
To you we all shall return.
I thank you for blessing and upholding our rite,
For teaching us to walk your divine path of balance
Blessed be.”
Ring the bell three times.
At the beginning, I left it up to the practitioner to devoke the God and Goddess that they invoked in their own manner. Normally I have a few set things that I say and then I add in anything that is appropriate for the season.
There really isn't much to say about this, it's a pretty standard bookend to the Circle Casting that preceeded it. Again, the Androgyne is included and given a last nod after the Circle is opened. I have it like that because I don't believe that we can invoke and devoke the Divine Androgyne like we would a regular deity. It is always there, whether we are aware of it or not, whether we call upon it or not.
Other than that, I just really like this opening. For me it brings a deep sense of peace and awareness after the ritual is over.
