Cast Circle.

“Gracious Goddess, Queen of Gods, Lady of the Moon, Creator of all life. Descend, we ask, and join us at our Circle.”

Light the Goddess candle.

______________ invoke God with:

“Ancient God of the forest deep, Lord of the Sun, Master of all that is wild and free. Descend, we ask, and join us at our Circle.”

Light the God Candle.

______________ say:

“We stand here tonight in the presence of the Goddess, in her light and love to give thanks for her blessings and to feel her power.”

______________ say:

“Lovely Lady, you have been known by so many names to so many people: Diana, Isis, Hescate. We honor you on your special night. Hear us now: We bless your bounty and your goodness, bless us in turn with your eternal power and love.”

Everyone gaze at the moon or envision it within the Circle.

Everyone say:

“Wondrous Lady of the Moon, Mistress of the night and of all magicks, who rides in the clouds in blackened skies and spills light upon the cold Earth; Lunar Goddess: Revealer of mysteries past and present; All-wise Great Mother, I greet your celestial jewel at the waxing of its power. Wrap me in your warm silvery light.”

Open yourself to the Goddess’ presence. Feel her spirit enter you, the
light filling your body. Draw the energy in, surrounding you with warmth.

“Bless us, Mother Goddess as your light washes over us and permeates us with your vibrant life energy.”

Silently give thanks to her for blessings or make requests at this time.

“God and Goddess, you have been good to us and we thank you for all that we have.”

Phaedra's Notes:

This ritual was originally performed circa 1999. Morgana and Ussal, two members of Cat’s Moon, were always ready and willing to help to add to the ritual repertoire while the group lasted. I’m honestly not sure if this is the original version or if it is one that I have altered. Even though Cat’s Moon didn’t last, I have kept using this ritual in different forms over the years.

The main difference from the rituals that I was used to writing is that after cakes and wine there is a final farewell to the Goddess. I like that touch but have never added to any other rituals that I’ve written. This is partially due to the fact that I’m never quite sure what to say and I usually feel that I’ve said all that I need to finish the rite.

Now that I’ve been thinking about it, I’m almost positive that this is one that I’ve changed bits on. I seem to remember that in the original we said things like the God and Goddess were our masters and we had to bend our knee to them. That might also be in the house blessing, but either way the whole idea of being ‘ruled’ by the God and Goddess has never appealed to me.
