Phaedra's Charge of the Goddess

Author: Phaedra

Hear now the words of the great Goddess, mother to us all.
Through the Ages she has been known by a thousand thousand names -
Inari, Hecate, Artemis, Bast, and Astarte to list but a few.
By whatever names we call her, she will hear us and respond:

I am All. I am the creatures of the air, the beasts of the fields, the swimmers of the ocean, and the bright light of the fire. I am the full and fertile earth and I am the inky, lifeless darkness in which the world spins. I am beautiful and terrible, merciful and cruel, kind and tempestuous. I am all things to all people for I am the original source to which all, eventually, return. I offer gifts to guide you, for you are all my children, the sun during the day and the moon and stars at night. Their light may wax and wane but they will offer you a sure compass to lead you ever onward. The sacred moon shows to you my many faces - Maiden, Mother, and Crone. You may invoke me when any of these lights are in the sky, or you may seek me in the depths of velvet darkness. I am always there, I am always with you. And remember, all acts of love and pleasure are my ritual. As long as you approach me with a true heart, I will welcome you.

It is my divine song that sings in your veins, the music that sets the whole universe to dancing in my footsteps. Honor me as you would honor yourself. Praise me as you would praise yourself. Whisper the sacred mystery - to find Me you must search inward and outward and understand the divine edict: “Know Thyself”. Only then will you know my true form and nature.

Phaedra's Notes:

This isn't as long as some of the Charges you will find, but for me it works wonders. I wanted to encompass what I thought/felt/know about the Goddess into something that was more succinct, hence the shortness. I also wanted to point out Her duality, how she is not just the happy, fertile goddess of sweetness and light. She can be horrible and cruel, but that doesn't make her less of Deity.

I am also a big proponent of taking responsibility for your own actions. WE make our choices, WE carry through with them, and as such WE have to face the consequences. I think I try to stress this because I have a very hard time seeing what consequences my actions will bring. It is a reminder to myself that just because it seems like a good idea doesn't mean that there won't be far reaching repercussions, ones that I may not like and may not be able to change.
