The Moon is one of the most complex Tarot cards. It represents the inner depths of the psyche, the powers of intuition and illusion.

The word "lunatic" is appropriate here. This is the card of the madman, the drug addict and the creative genius. Of the tortured soul.

The card shows a dark landscape illuminated only by the clear, white light of the Moon - light which is itself a reflection and hence illusion. Scorpions and wolves await the unwary traveller attempting to pass between the forbidding towers.

Yet this is also a landscape of great power, there is much to be learned here; if one can survive the perils and cope with the contradictions inherent therein.

Truth is falsehood. Reality is illusion. Nothing is real.

When the Moon appears in a Tarot spread it often represents emotional challenges, inner turmoil and psychic disturbance. There can be a lack of clarity in dealing with the mundane world, an excess of dreaming. Whether or not these experiences can be worked through and harnessed depends on the querent.

There is a budding morrow in the midnight.

I just really liked the idea of the hot Crossroads Demon being the moon - you're never really sure if what she's saying is truth or lie. She does her best to tempt you with a mixture of illusion and reality until you're willing to make the trade with her.

Dean was the most vocal about dealing with demons when we first meet the Crossroad ladies, if you make a deal with them then you deserve what you get. There was no sympathy for the fools who traded away their souls for a bit of fame or fortune or even more time with a family member. Ironic, then, that Dean is one to go to the Crossroads to bargain for Sam's life.

Everytime one of these women have appeared it certainly has spelled emotional turmoil and upheavel for the Winchester boys. Personally, I feel that there is a hidden heart of truth in what the Moon shows to you, you just have to ferret it out. I just hope that Sam and Dean can do it before Dean's time runs out.

I included an image of the Devil's Trap on this card because I think that is what the Moon does - it traps us. We know that what it shows may or may not be true but we are so caught up in our own desires that we don't really care that we may placing ourselves in jeopardy. The Moon itself can also be trapped into giving false advice that seems true and vice versa. I think that this is one of the trickiest cards in the deck.
